♦ Bring a bag to school that contains items identifying who you are, such as a running shoe, a plant, an award, or a graduation tassel.

♦ Divide students into groups. Place a few items on each table, and give students a few minutes to decide what they think each item says about you.

♦ Have students take turns telling what an item is and what this says about you. Don’t disagree with a student until everyone has spoken about the items.

♦ Circulate from table to table and explain each item, letting students know what you think it says about you.

♦ Have students complete a questionnaire that asks where they were born, where they have lived, whom they live with, where they have previously attended school, and what their favorite or least favorite subject is.

♦ Invite students to bring in two or three of their own items to share the following day.
